My Rant;
We're off the road here, but:
Despite this being a Seattle, WA band, and most of the band except Scott Mercado (Ohio) being born in or around Seattle; and even the fact this track was released in '93 before grunge died, this is not a grunge song. It is far too beautiful to be grunge, far too well played (or perhaps 'correctly' played) instruments to be grunge. That's why it's alternative. It was Seattle rock at a time when record company's were signing up anyone in Seattle who owned a guitar and calling them grunge.
I love this track, it is my personal favourite song of all time (well it's in the top 5). Lyrically excellent, it calls to everyone who feels left out (song apparently about another rock stars herion death). I remember getting goose bumps hearing this song for the first time on the comp album 'The Trip 4.
Also as a teenager we did stoopid shit, and regretted it (maybe i didn't mean to treat you all so bad, but i did anyway). So for this this is another track that grabs youth and says, it's ok you know; this shit you're going through, we all do it.
The music between 2:53 and 3:33 is beyond awesome; beautiful and powerful.
